Creating the Good

1.
What you say creates the world in which you live.
A better world is achieved in the process of right speech.

2.
What you think creates the world in which you live.
A better world is achieved in the process of right thought.

3.
What you think you see creates the world in which you live.
See the goodness in the world and a good world
will be achieved in the process.

4.
Within the best is some bad.
Within the worst is some good.
Acknowledging both leads to a better world.

5.
Don't let the bad you see convince you that people are nothing but bad.
Don't let the evil you see convince you that the world is nothing but bad.
See the reality that is beyond appearances.

6.
Cultivate the good, but pay attention to the bad,
We all contain parts that are less than good.
What we won't acknowledge will harm us.

7.
Beware of self-righteousness.
It is a great pitfall of those who aspire to goodness.

8.
Cultivate humility.
It is the way of connectedness.

9.
Beware of false humility --
It leads to self-righteousness.

10.
Pride is necessary.
Misplaced pride is dangerous.

11.
When we see ourselves too grandly, we cannot truly know the world.
It is like trying to touch an object in a mirror.

12.
The challenge of the young is to develop humility.
The challenge of the old is to maintain hope.

13.
No one is perfect.
Be skeptical of purity.
Admit that you don't have all the answers.

14.
Each is born with unique endowments.
Each is born in a certain place.
Each is born at a particular time.
Some are born with limited endowments.
Some are born in places of misfortune.
Some are born in times of calamity.
Therefore, be humble.
Your achievements aren't yours alone.
Be generous in your judgment of others.

15.
Make a space in which to think.
Make a place in which to feel.
Take the time to know where you are.
Take the time know who you are.

16.
Pay attention.
Stay awake.
For the moment lay aside all ambition.
For the moment set aside all plans.

17.
A clenched hand leads to a lonely life.
A lonely life cannot be a happy life.
Therefore, open our hand and give what you are able.
