Obligations to Others

1.
Do not be concerned that others haven't affirmed you.
Be concerned that you haven't affirmed others.

2.
With others you share your strengths.
From others you gain your own.

3.
Walk side-by-side.
Promise to take care of one another:
Give one another strength.
Give one another courage to meet another day.
This is the code of friendship.

4.
Seek the highest in others.
Again and again you will create holy ground.
It is always new and right here below your feet.

5.
In respecting others you find what is most precious in yourself.

6.
Friends provide light for one another.
They accept each other not only for who they are.
They accept each other for what they might become.

7.
What you say affects others.
Therefore, you have a duty to speak truthfully and kindly.

8.
How you appear affects others.
Therefore, you have an obligation to appear pleasing to others.

9.
Blame is useless.
Not making the same mistake again is useful.

10.
You can't change others.
But you can change how you react to others.
By changing your reactions to others you may also change them.
Therefore, it is possible to change others.

11.
To see yourself as you are, use a mirror.
To see yourself as you might be, use a light.
